Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little more about me! I was always a “last-name kid” growing up, so all my friends and family call me Klocko! In fact, many people don’t even know my first name! If you call me Klocko or BK whenever we meet, we’ll be instant friends!
I am a third-generation nurse, so healing and helping others is in my blood! I was lucky to have been introduced to medicine at an early age and was inspired as a child by the work of doctors and nurses at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Knowing that a child would not be turned away due to lack of finances was moving. This idea motivated me to work hard and use my gifts and talents to help those than cannot help themselves. I have now been a Registered Nurse for six years and have used this education to spend my free time eliminating barriers of access to medical care.
Although I was born in Phoenix, AZ, I was quite the traveler. I have now moved thirty times in my life and consider myself well versed in many different areas of the country! I have loved my experiences meeting so many different types of people throughout many walks of life. Chances are, wherever you are from I have either lived there or have a friend who has!
I spent a majority of my schooling years on the West Coast in California. I graduated early with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a bachelor of Psychology degree, where I emphasized my studies in human memory and cognitive neuroscience. During this time, I was blessed to be a Surgical Intensive Care Unit volunteer. I then went on to graduate with honors holding a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the accelerated program at Mount Saint Mary’s University.
When I am not working or volunteering as a nurse, I love to spend time snowboarding with my family, country two-step dancing, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers! I also love to bake and pride myself on earning the name “Cupcake” at work for all the treats I’ve brought in over the years. If you have any great recipes, send them my way!
